Match Preview ahead of Friday nights big game

Friday night see's the Wellmen return to League action as we make the short journey to Denbigh Town.

Like ourselves, Denbigh Town are having a great season and find themselves just above us in 3rd place on 27 points, 5 points ahead of us but they have played 2 more matches than us.

Holywell havent played since their Welsh Cup match against Caerau Ely earlier in the month as our last game against Llanberis was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. The same goes for Denbigh Town as their last match against Llandudno Junction was also postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

The Wellmen are hoping that Ian Griffiths finds his scoring boots against his former club with Mark Orme and Tom Povey both looking to do well against their former club. Steve Thomas will also be looking to keep his good form going and will be looking to add to his goal tally. Town welcome back Josh Roberts and Mark Orme who were both cup tied in the last match.

Holywell must keep Denbigh's Andy Swarbick and Eddie Maurice-Jones quiet as the pair of them have scored 28 league goals between them already this term, with Mark Roberts and Kristian Pierce closely following them pair and have chipped in with 10 league goals each. Denbigh Town may have ex Holywell player Craig Garside in their squad after his recent move from Bangor City.

The sides have met twice this season already, both matches played at Halkyn Road in the Welsh Cup and also in the Cookson Cup. Holywell won both them matches, 3-1 in the Welsh Cup with goals coming from Steve Thomas, Tony Roebuck and Ian Griffiths, whilst an Ashley Durham goal in injury time saw The Wellmen through in the Cookson Cup.

Friday night will not be easy and Denbigh will be looking to make amends for the 2 defeats earlier in the season against us, whilst a win for the hosts on Friday night would see them go top of the league. A Holywell win would claw back some points on the top three and with a games in hand on all of the teams above us, would set us up nicely for the matches in the New Year.

Kick off is 7.30pm and will be the first time that both sides have met under Denbigh's new floodlights. Please make every effor to support the Wellmen in the big local derby and hopefully, it will be Holywell who come home with the points to make it a great festive period for the Wellmen.

C'mon the Town!!
