Holywell Town were beaten 6-2 by Caernarfon Town this afternoon at the Oval.

"We will take it on the chin and look to put things right next week"
- John Haseldin - Manager

The home side took the lead as early as the 6th minute with their first attack of the afternoon, Darren Thomas getting on the end of a cross to steer the ball home past John Rushton. Ten minutes or so later, the home side had increased their lead when Thomas again got on the score sheet, running on to pick up a defence splitting pass, to shoot low past Rushton. Thomas completed his hat trick 5 minutes later when his long range effort ended up in the net via Rushton's left hand post.

Things got worse for the Wellmen with half an hour on the clock when Danny Brookwell fired home to make it 4-0 to the Canaries, and with no further goals in the first half, Town were left a mountain to climb in the second half to get anything out of the game.

The second half was only 5 minutes old when Caernarfon Town scored their 5th through Jamie Breese, leaving Town with a bigger task to come away from the Oval with anything. The Wellmen slowly got back into the game and played better football than they did in the first half, and persistence paid off in the 77nd minute as Matty Hurdman fired home a brilliant free kick from 35 yards past the Caernarfon keeper.

Phil Lloyd got Town's second goal with 7 minutes remaining, and could have got another a couple of minutes later but his effort fell just wide of the goal. Any prayer's for a comeback were dashed in the final minute as Caernarfon Town grabbed their sixth goal of the afternoon to complete a deserved victory.

A disappointed John Haseldin tweeted, "I'm gutted about today, we let ourselves down badly with so many not on it at all. Caernarfon Town deserved the win, they take some stopping when they are in that mood!"

"We were a lot better second half but it was too little too late. We will take it on the chin and look to put things right next week."
