Below par Wellmen lose first match of season.

The Wellmen welcomed Ruthin Town to Halkyn Road for the league opener and fell to a 3-0 defeat.

The match started well as both teams looked to get control of the game, and the match flowed from end to end, but it was the visitors who took the lead with 12 minutes on the clock as Ryan Jones beat the offside trap before shooting past Andy Metcalf to give the visitors the lead. Midway through the half, the visitors extended their when Ryan Jones got his second of the game, with an almost identical goal to his first. Connor Littler and Matthew Kendrick both have effort to pull a goal back but failed to his the target and disaster struck for the Wellmen with a few minutes remaining as Gwion Owen grabs Ruthin's 3rd goal of the night to give a 3-0 scoreline at the break.

The Wellmen were much better in the second half, and pressed looking for a goal to put them selves back in the game. Damian Ketley and Lee Davey both going close. Ruthin nearly grabbed a 4th but Andy Metcalf saved well at the feet of Will Owen. Sub March Gunther watched as his shot was brilliantly saved by Ruthin Keeper Ryan Goldston, before Sam Jones' long range effort was going goalbound but hit a Holywell player on the way through and the shot was saved by Goldston.

Despite all their efforts, Town could not get on the scoresheet and suffered a 3-0 defeat in their opening game of the season.

The Wellmen's next match is on Saturday 18th August when Penrhyncoch travel up to Halkyn Road, kick off 2.30pm.
