Holywell Town beat Tranmere Rovers Academy side 2-0 at Halkyn Road.

The Wellmen took the lead in the 28th minute as Matty Harvey broke the deadlock, heading home a cross from the right. (See picture). Town were thankful for Goalkeeper Joe Griffiths save on the stroke of half time to keep the score 1-0 at the break.

It was the visitors who started the better of the teams in the second half, hitting the cross bar with a shot off the striker, then again, thankful for a great tip over save from Griffiths before Steve Lewis found himself him space but his shot went inches wide of the Tranmere goal.

Griffiths blocked well with his feet from a shot by the Tranmere forward and the Wellmen counter attacked well and Lewis won a penalty after he was felled in the penalty box. Lewis stepped up to take the spot kick but the Tranmere goalkeeper pulled off a great save to keep the score at 1-0.

A couple of minutes later however, Town had doubled their lead. Shaun Tuck, who's in great goalscoring form during the pre-season campaign, curled a shot into the top corner with the keeper well beaten.

The game ended 2-0 to the Wellmen and it was another great performance and run out for the lads with the new season edging ever closer.

Shaun Tuck, who scored the second goal and has scored 8 goals in 6 matches said, "Great 2-0 win at home tonight against Tranmere Rovers. Brilliant team performance and I topped it off with best goals I've ever scored!"

The Wellmen round off their pre-season campaign on Saturday against Maghull at Halkyn Road. Kick off is 2.30pm.
